The Texas State Student Health Center provides primary, women’s and psychiatric healthcare services to university students. We have experienced healthcare providers, including physicians and nurse practitioners. All services are offered by appointment. Medical, laboratory, digital radiography and pharmacy services are available on-site. The Student Health Center is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).
The Student Health Center offers affordable prices for college students and health insurance coverage is not required to receive care. The Student Health Center does offer a university-endorsed student health insurance plan for students without insurance or those seeking more affordable coverage.
The Student Health Center also has a Health Promotion Services department that strives to help students succeed by promoting healthy lifestyles and creating a healthy campus environment at Texas State.

The Texas State Student Health Center has chosen to be accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
Accreditation is a voluntary process through which an organization is able to measure the quality of its services and performance against nationally recognized standards. The accreditation process involves self-assessment by the organization, as well as a thorough review by AAAHC expert surveyors, who themselves have extensive experience in healthcare.
The accreditation certificate is a symbol of high quality healthcare. It ensures that an organization adopts the best practices in healthcare and complies with nationally recognized standards.
The Texas State Student Health Center has been accredited by AAAHC since 2003. A very small percentage of college health centers in the United States are accredited. In Texas, only seven college health centers are accredited by AAAHC: Baylor University, Sam Houston State University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas State University, University of Texas at Austin and University of Texas-Pan American. The Texas Tech University Student Health Center is accredited by the Joint Commission.

We shall be guided by ethical principles and behaviors that will assist us in successfully achieving this mission:
Organizational decisions will be based on what is in the best interest of our students. Conflicts of interest that deter us from acting in the best interest of our students, or otherwise interfere with the ethical delivery of services, will not be acceptable.
Compassionate care in a supportive, welcoming and non-judgmental environment will be provided to all students and others seeking care without regard for race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, veterans’ status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
Only professional medical staff who are appropriately trained and licensed will be allowed to provide patient care. All staff will ensure they are providing the best possible service by adhering to the most current standards of care, utilizing professional best practices and expanding their knowledge through continuous education.
Patients will be informed of all appropriate options for addressing their health care needs and the consequences of not pursuing treatment. Health care decision-making will be a shared responsibility between patient and health care provider, and shall be based on mutual respect and informed consent.
Personal health information will be safeguarded using all reasonable measures available and in compliance with applicable state and federal laws. Personal health information will not be released without the prior written consent of the patient, unless required by law or necessary due to an emergency.
Health education provided to students and others will be accurate and unbiased, and programs will be evidence-based and appropriate for the student population we serve. We shall advocate for the health and wellness needs of our students.
We will work diligently to remove access barriers to our health and wellness services, and students will not be denied necessary medical care due to the inability to pay.
We will value the contribution of different perspectives and experiences and treat all whom we work with, or serve, with respect. We will expand our understanding of the diverse student population we serve in an effort to provide culturally competent care.
We will act as good stewards of our financial resources and make careful and thoughtful decisions about how to use those resources to bring the greatest value to our students.
We will take responsibility for our actions and seek always to learn from our mistakes. We shall hold each other accountable for adhering to the ethical principles that guide our organization.
We will work together and act with integrity at all times in pursuit of our mission, and we shall always acknowledge that it is our students who determine whether we have succeeded in achieving that mission.
