Sexual harassment and assault are hidden but widespread problems. Consider these statistics:

  • There is physical violence in 1/3 of all dating relationships.

  • 1 out of every 6 women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.

  • 10 to 20 percent of males will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.

Chances are that you or someone you know has been affected by these problems. They can happen to anyone regardless of gender, racial background or educational level. Because of the shame and fear that many victims experience, it may be difficult to reach out and find help. These pages will help you learn more about sexual harassment, assault and domestic violence. You will find information about legal definitions, resources for survivors of violence, suggestions about how to respect the rights and wishes of partners and ways you can care for the health and safety of friends and loved ones.
