General Health
It can be overwhelming to sort through all the health information that is available. Separating rumors and myths from reliable facts can take a great deal of time. Because of this, the Health Education Resource Center has developed the General Health section in order to offer a wealth of information about a variety of health topics. The extensive Resources and Links section includes off-campus sites written by health professionals that addresses the health concerns of diverse groups and gives you interactive tools to assess your health.
Whatever source you use, it is important to be a critical consumer of health information. Look for independent, reliable sources of information. Be wary of sites that are trying to sell you specific products or miracle cures. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Anecdotal reports or testimonials are never as reliable as scientific studies that can be replicated numerous times by different researchers. If you hear about health scares via e-mail or the internet, you can also go to the CDC's page concerning health-related hoaxes and rumors to find out the facts.
