Texas State University Student Health Center ~ Special Appointments: Allergy Injections

Allergy Injections

The Student Health Center cannot administer your allergy injections without first receiving appropriate background information. Please allow enough time to complete this process before attempting to schedule your first injection.

For your safety, you must receive your first allergy injection(s) at your allergist's office. The Student Health Center will not initiate injections but will give subsequent injections for a fee of $25.00 for the first visit and $15.00 for all subsequent visits. To begin receiving allergy injections here, please call (512) 245-2167. We will need the following from your allergist:

  • Allergy serum should be labeled with the patient's name, serum, strength, and expiration date.
  • A signed and dated order from your allergist to give allergy injections per the injection schedule.
  • Injection schedule.
  • Specific instructions on what dose to give for late injections and reactions.
  • Documentation of the last injection given to include the date, dose, reaction, and nurse's signature.
  • When initiating immunotherapy or restarting after being off for an extended time, the allergist must always give the first injection in their office.
  • Have the above documentation mailed or faxed to us at (512) 245-9288 or drop it by the Student Health Center.
    • The Clinical Nurse Supervisor will contact you when all necessary documentation has been received. She will help you schedule an appointment to see a physician at the Student Health Center.
    • The physician will review the documentation and give the final approval for administering injections at the Student Health Center.
  • Once this initial process has been completed, you will simply call the Student Health Center at (512) 245-2167 to schedule an appointment with the nurse to receive your injections as you need them.
    • Injections are given by appointment only.
    • Please call one week in advance.
  • For immunotherapy to be effective, it is essential that you get your injections as your allergist has recommended and on time.
