Texas State University Student Health Center ~ Special Appointments: TB Tests
TB Tests
Who is required to have a TB test
Many programs on campus require an annual TB test. Health Professions and Athletic Training students are required to have a TB test less than one year old, as well as education students who are preparing to do their student teaching.
How to schedule an appointment
Please call (512) 245-2167 to schedule your TB test. The appointment may be set for any day during which we are regularly open except for Thursdays, due to the fact that results must be read within 48-72 hours of taking the test.
Special outreach events for TB testing are held at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. Please call (512) 245-2167 for dates and times.
What is a TB test?
This procedure tests the skin to see if it has been exposed to tuberculosis germs.
Information about TB tests
The TB test costs $15. You must be able to return to the clinic within 48-72 hours of taking the test in order to have it read by a provider or a nurse. Those who have received a positive test in the past may not take the test again. If you have had a positive skin test, please schedule an appointment to see a provider for a chest X-ray by calling (512) 245-2167. Click here for more information about tuberculosis.
Some additional requirements
Those in the health professions and the athletic training programs are also required to have a physical exam. The TB test must be administered before you can schedule your physical exam, and you must also obtain a copy of your immunization record. You must schedule an immunization record review with a nurse, and you may have your TB test done at that time as well. The Student Health Center will NOT have a copy of your immunization record unless you have previously sent a copy to us. Check with your family doctor, your parents, or your high school to get a copy of your immunization record. Please bring this with you when you come for your immunization record review appointment.
