State law (Senate Bill 1107) requires that all new students entering a public, private, or independent institution of higher education in Texas beginning in January 2012 must provide proof of immunization for bacterial meningitis.

Note: Students will not be allowed to register for classes if the meningitis vaccine requirement has not been completed. You must either have the vaccination or submit the required documents for an exemption. All documentation must be submitted to Magnus Health SMR for review before the registration “hold” can be removed. It may take up to four days after submitting documents to Magnus before the “hold” is removed. So, students should allow ample time to avoid problems with registration.

Texas State does not require a physical exam or medical record for incoming students. However, the following immunizations are also recommended. These are available at the Student Health Center.
- Hepatitis B
- Tdap Vaccine Booster: A single dose of Tdap booster should be given to adolescents 11-18 and adults 19-64. Tdap can be administered regardless of interval since the last tetanus or diphtheria toxoid-containing vaccine.
- HPV Vaccine: recommended for all female college students for prevention of cervical cancer.
- Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine
- Influenza Vaccine: Influenza vaccine is now recommended for all individuals over the age of 6 months. Flu shots are given annually in the fall.
