Secure messages are not transmitted like a standard e-mail. Instead, you must log on to OSH to view your messages. Since the website is secure, like an online bank website, your healthcare provider can transmit Protected Health Information (PHI). Your healthcare provider may choose to communicate PHI about your care such as lab results, referral information or treatment instructions. Secure messages should not be used for patients to request an online evaluation of a new medical problem.
PHI is any information that can identify you and also contains information about your physical or mental health conditions, treatment or payment for care. To protect your privacy, by law PHI must be stored securely.
You will be able to view messages from your healthcare provider and also reply to those messages. Most healthcare providers use secure messages to give you your lab results. Messages will only be returned during Student Health Center business hours. Please note that secure messages and replies will become part of your Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
You may call the Student Health Center at 512.245.2161 if you have any questions about OSH or secure messaging.
