Charges at the Student Health Center

The Student Health Center does have charges for services, including office visits, but offers very affordable prices for college students. At this time, we can file courtesy insurance claims upon request. The Student Health Center has plans to accept private insurance in the future.

How much is an office visit at the Student Health Center?

Whenever you see a healthcare provider (physician or nurse practitioner) at the Student Health Center, you will be charged for an office visit. This includes initial and follow-up visits. Please see the examples below:

Standard office visit:

  • $10 for most visits
  • If you are not currently enrolled at the San Marcos campus, the office charge is $35.

Physicals:

  • $20

Initial ADHD consultation:

  • $35

Psychiatry visits (available by referral only):

  • $35 for initial appointments
  • $20 for follow-up appointments 

What are the charges for the on-site laboratory and x-ray services?

The Student Health Center offers a variety of lab tests and x-rays on site. Please note that many patients do not need additional tests. Any charges for tests or procedures will be discussed with the patient prior to ordering the tests. Many of the common lab tests range from $20 to $60 and x-rays are $35. Please bring your insurance card if you want the Health Center to file a courtesy insurance claim for possible reimbursement.

What are the charges for Pharmacy services?

For price information about over-the-counter medications, please click here. For prescription prices, please call the Pharmacy at 512.245.3590. Please note that the Pharmacy does not accept prescription insurance, but offers very competitive prices. Students are encouraged to check prices against their prescription co-pays before driving to another Pharmacy.

Is health insurance coverage required to access services at the Student Health Center?

No, students can access services whether they have insurance coverage or not. Students with urgent medical needs who cannot pay will not be refused necessary treatments. Students who do not currently have insurance coverage might want to consider purchasing the Texas State student health insurance plan. Please click here for more information.

What are the charges for services at the Student Health Center if I have the Texas State student health insurance plan?

If you have the Texas State student health insurance plan, the Student Health Center will bill the insurance company directly for any covered services, including prescription medications. For more information about the optional Texas State student health insurance plan, please click here.

Payment Options

Payment is due at the time of service. Students are required to present their Texas State ID when visiting the Student Health Center. The Student Health Center accepts cash, checks, Bobcat Bucks, all major credit cards and most flex (HSA) cards. Students or parents may use the Quick Pay option by completing this form and sending to the Student Health Center. This will hold a credit card number on file to be used if needed for medical services. Please bring your insurance card if you want the Health Center to file a courtesy insurance claim for possible reimbursement.

Does the Student Health Center accept insurance?

The Student Health Center has plans to accept private insurance in the future. At this time, the Health Center will file courtesy insurance claims upon request, which may result in a possible reimbursement. Patients should bring their insurance card to their visit and discuss their options with Cashier staff during check out. Patients may also fill out the Insurance Information Form and fax a copy of their insurance card to the Health Center Cashier Department.
