The Student Health Center’s mission is to support the academic and personal success of all Texas State students by providing high-quality, accessible and inclusive health and wellness services. We shall be guided by ethical principles and behaviors that will assist us in successfully achieving this mission:
Organizational decisions will be based on what is in the best interest of our students. Conflicts of interest that deter us from acting in the best interest of our students, or otherwise interfere with the ethical delivery of services, will not be acceptable.
Compassionate care in a supportive, welcoming and non-judgmental environment will be provided to all students and others seeking care without regard for race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, veterans’ status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
Only professional medical staff who are appropriately trained and licensed will be allowed to provide patient care. All staff will ensure they are providing the best possible service by adhering to the most current standards of care, utilizing professional best practices and expanding their knowledge through continuous education.
Patients will be informed of all appropriate options for addressing their health care needs and the consequences of not pursuing treatment. Health care decision-making will be a shared responsibility between patient and health care provider, and shall be based on mutual respect and informed consent.
Personal health information will be safeguarded using all reasonable measures available and in compliance with applicable state and federal laws. Personal health information will not be released without the prior written consent of the patient, unless required by law or necessary due to an emergency.
Health education provided to students and others will be accurate and unbiased, and programs will be evidence-based and appropriate for the student population we serve. We shall advocate for the health and wellness needs of our students.
We will work diligently to remove access barriers to our health and wellness services, and students will not be denied necessary medical care due to the inability to pay.
We will value the contribution of different perspectives and experiences and treat all whom we work with, or serve, with respect. We will expand our understanding of the diverse student population we serve in an effort to provide culturally competent care.
We will act as good stewards of our financial resources and make careful and thoughtful decisions about how to use those resources to bring the greatest value to our students.
We will take responsibility for our actions and seek always to learn from our mistakes. We shall hold each other accountable for adhering to the ethical principles that guide our organization
We will work together and act with integrity at all times in pursuit of our mission, and we shall always acknowledge that it is our students who determine whether we have succeeded in achieving that mission.
The Student Health Center’s tagline is Get Healthy. Stay Healthy. Live Well. We want to ensure we meet our goal of providing high-quality, accessible and inclusive health care services to meet the needs of all students.
Students Get Healthy by utilizing the Student Health Center Services, visiting Student Health Center when ill, utilizing our Pharmacy, and utilizing Health Promotions Services by means of presentations or consultations.
Students Stay Healthy by utilizing Student Health Center's preventive services such as: flu shots, STI screenings, annual exams, physicals, contraceptive options, travel health; use of pharmacy for over-the-counter medications, and continued health literacy through HPS presentations and Student Health Center health content.
Students Live Well by combining all learned behaviors from clinical services to preventive care, completing education as a Healthy Bobcat, taking learned behaviors with them after TXST and be the healthiest version of themselves.
Get Healthy. Stay Healthy. Live Well
The students we serve are ever-changing and growing. They may reach the end of their time at Texas State, but we continue with them and with the next generation – the next class of Bobcats! The Student Health Center and Healthy Bobcats will continuously go through the cycle to Get Healthy. Stay Healthy. Live Well.
